My Story
My journey began in 1981 when I began working in the banking industry with CIBC, I joke that “I grew up” in the bank. I was 10 days out of High School and my initial role was a very junior position which only lasted a few months. I was fortunate to be working in a large branch in Calgary so opportunities for advancement came very quickly and was soon in a position that allowed me to work with customers and offer services for their day-to-day banking needs.
I transferred to the High River branch in 1985 and we started our family shortly after. By 1990 I had advanced to a Personal Banking role, which evolved into a Financial Advisor role. While busy raising our two small children, I was encouraged to continue my education by taking financial courses and eventually received my designation as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional in 1999. During this time, I realized that not only did I enjoy offering banking products and services, but found I was most helpful when providing advice. Engaging clients in conversation to determine their financial goals and objectives provided for a much better client experience
In 2009, after our children had finished school, I found my opportunities in High River were limited and I would have to make a change in order to continue in expanding my role as a Financial Planner. I realized that I would have to transfer back into the city to achieve this next step in my career. In 2010 I found a position at the same branch I worked at in 1981 and looked forward to the new opportunity to enhance my skills in a planning role. This was a successful move for me and confirmed I had the capabilities to take over and expand a large portfolio, while building trusting relationships with new clients.
After working at CIBC for 35 years I ended up in a unique situation with my pension and made the decision to leave the bank for financial reasons in 2017. I was offered other opportunities but decided to take the time to spend with family and pursue some other interests that I had.
Like many of us as we move on to the next stages of our lives, I was looking to understand the meaning of it all. I found a very welcoming meditation group and spent time with them, reflecting on past accomplishments and personal growth while finding new ways to continue to help others. During this time I realized that the success in my career as a Financial Planner was tied to my ability to connect with others and my desire to help people.
So, what am I up to now?
After taking some time off, I found I missed connecting with people who needed help with their finances, from the day-to-day banking issues to helping plan for the big picture and all the life stages in between. Additionally, I am also practicing Reiki healing and Access Consciousness techniques. You might think that Finances and Energy Healing are at opposite ends of the spectrum, but I see now, how it is all connected. Our Minds, Bodies and Spirits need to be balanced so we can succeed in all areas of our lives. Healing ourselves is the first step to becoming the unique individuals we all are meant to be.
